Having already impressed with a series of high quality singles showcasing the trio’s impeccable abilities as musicians, Rich Meehan Trio now share their hotly anticipated debut EP ‘Suite Antique’.
A stunning collection of tracks built around Richard Meehan’s piano mastery, the 5 track EP is an absolute eclectic joy. From the Jazz FM approved, swaying intro ‘Prelude’ to the vibrant and jubilant ‘Carillon’, to the intense, choppy and at times tongue in cheek ‘Toccata’, the EP is full of dark and light blending it’s backbone of contemporary jazz with classically influenced piano and a wash of dappled electronics.
This unique blend is what makes the Rich Meehan Trio so interesting – they could very well put together a solid and very listenable collection of jazz standards, but instead they’ve pushed the boat out, crossing genres and pushed the limits of their music with numerous key changes and complex, interweaving instrumentation. It’s brave and the result is a sublime body of work well worth delving into.
