Jacob Didas is an alternative hip hop artist from Honolulu, Hawaii who does the vocals, piano, keyboard, and production for his music.

Interestingly, Jacob wasn’t born in Hawaii. He grew up in Buffalo, New York as the middle child of five kids in a very close family. Troubled with anxiety, music was his personal escape. No matter what he wanted to do as he got older, music was always there for him. Music was his companion.

Rap, Rock, Reggae/Ska and R&B were genres that heavily influenced Jacob during his struggle, so that’s the music he began to create. Although music was one of his passions, Jacob enrolled in the Army ROTC at Canisius College.  The Army stationed him at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, which is how he ended up in Hawaii.

Being in a new place was good for his musical abilities due to his new surroundings. After all, being somewhere different does get your mind thinking a bit more sometimes. Although the genres listed earlier are some of Jacob’s favorites, he does love multiple genres of music. That’s why when listening to “Drumroll” off of his latest album Lucid, you hear a little bit of alternative rock, gospel, and jazz.

“I currently serve as a US Army Officer and psychiatric nurse, says Jacob. “My intention was to make an album inspired by many of the topics that are important not only within the psychiatric setting, but in life as a whole. Love, self-reflection, highs, lows and patience are among the themes woven through the lyrics and instrumentals.”

He continued saying, “Music has always been a strong outlet for me. I came to terms with many personal battles and this is my way of sharing a message of value. Pulling from a variety of genres and a lot of love, I present to you, Lucid.”
If you are a fan of Twista, Bone Thugs N Harmony, P.O.D., Shinedown, Less Than Jake, Linkin Park and Story of the Year, you may like Jacob Didas.
