|From the desert of Phoenix, Arizona, indie rock band Sleepwar combines new wave and synth-pop influence with lyrics speaking to addiction, recovery and the inherent struggles of life. Sleepwar is led by Roger Willis (vocals, bass, producer) with Tim Woodbridge (producer, keys), Mark Pfister (guitar) and Brendan McGuinness (drums).
Sleepwar’s Sophmore EP ‘Consequences’, was released on May 8th, 2020 and was recorded, mixed, and produced by Cory Spotts (Job For A Cowboy, The Maine, Bless the Fall, Greeley Estates) at BLUElight Audio Media in Phoenix, AZ.
‘Consequences’ EP is special to the band because it talks about the various members’ trials with addiction. For example, the song Machiner is about repeating the same mistakes over and over again to the point of physical pain and emotional exhaustion. Destroying the “machine” or the worldview that we are born in and finding truth through reason and humility.
Sleepwar was formed in 2016 when Roger Willis (Goodbye Tomorrow, Something Left To Learn, Namesake) sought a new project focused on songwriting and collaborated with producer Tim Woodbridge, who had been composing with vocal placement in mind.
The band’s evolution from garage to indie rock new wave brought to the lineup several talented musicians, eventually finding balance with current drummer Brendan McGuinness and guitarist Mark Pfister.
Utilizing lush synthesizer soundscapes, Sleepwar produces a sound that is both familiar yet unique. Fans of the four-piece rock outfit have likened their music to that of Tame Impala, the Killers, Coldplay, Imagine Dragons and Local Natives.
