Rising duo REUNIØN have recently embarked on an emphatic journey together. Since releasing music, REUNIØN has been the creative outlet for producers Eliot James and Jon Green who perfectly utilise the opportunity to embed their own vision onto a finely sculpted landscape of sound. This is no different with their brand-new single ‘Never Breaking Up’.
We caught up with the duo to talk all about their new single!
Hey guys, thank you for joining us today. Could you please tell any of our readers that haven’t heard about you yet what you’re all about?
Thanks for having us along! REUNIØN is us, Eliot James and Jon Green. We are songwriters and producers, we met through music and some other projects a few years back and this is a project borne out of some studio downtime and has organically grown from us just jamming some ideas of our own in between working with other artists. We just wanted to lay down the sounds and songs we were starting to write naturally whilst hanging out.
Congrats on the release of your single ‘Never Breaking Up’. How are you feeling about this right now?
We’re feeling very excited to have it out in the world. Ever since this track came together we’ve both been itching to get it out there so lovely to finally set it free. It’s a slightly different sound to some of our previous tunes but it’s still very much part of our ethos..chasing some emotion and hopefulness within the chords and themes.
Could you talk to us about the process you have made as a duo to get to this point?
We first met in about 2014 when we worked on an album together for an artist called Tor Miller. I guess through doing that we found a mutual respect for each other’s abilities in the studio. This makes for an easy going process when we get together on Reunion sessions. It’s become quite an instinctive process – we sort of produce each other without really thinking about it too much and what comes out is what you hear.
We’re loving the artwork for ‘Never Breaking Up’ could you please explain the meaning behind this?
All the REUNIØN artwork comes from a very talented artist/photographer friend of ours called Marc Fox a.k.a @theurbanefox. He has a wonderful knack of creating striking, vivid and occasionally lurid images from the mundane by subtly messing with images digitally. We’re both big fans and after asking him if we could use an image of his for the first release it’s turned into an ongoing thing.
If you had to describe the single in 3 words which, would you pick?
Emotive, hopeful, fireworks
Was the process in creating ‘Never Breaking Up’ different to the other singles you have released?
Well, It’s definitely markedly different in tone to the other tracks. When we sat down to make it we wanted to create something that had a bit more energy and that’s what came out. Incidentally it was a slightly different process on this one in that it started when we were in the room together and then we did a bit of tag teaming on it – we worked individually in our own spaces on it more than we have done in the past. Sending files back and forth etc..
Has listening to any other artist throughout your youth inspired this record?
Youth? We’re in the prime of our youth right now, what are you talking about…Ha, yes for sure, I- Jon- listened to a lot of Springsteen growing up. There’s a lot of big, sweeping images and sonics throughout his work and I always aspired to shoot for that feeling. I think we both had different influences growing up but more recent acts like The Killers, Francis & The Lights, Bon Iver all inspire us, definitely.
What can we expect to see from in the future from you guys?
Lots more music. We’re busy bagging more tunes as we go and no doubt it will culminate in an album sometime soon, maybe later next year. And who knows what else…
Thanks for joining us guys. Any last comments you would like to mention to fans?
Just to say thank you to those who’ve taken the time to listen to our music so far, shared it and become part of the REUNIØN journey. To those who we are first meeting now, reading this, we hope you check us out and hopefully we can continue building a great connection through music!
