Formerly a touring DJ and an ongoing producer, girl_irl is one of the many aliases of Em Perlman. Making music that they dub “industrial pop” with inspiration from their diverse roots (MENA roots with an Atlanta upbringing), girl_irl explores all aspects of today’s sonic landscape, tapping into new genres and bringing a new sound with it, as can be heard on their electrifying new single, “sting”.

Despite only arriving on the music scene last year, girl_irl has already quickly surpassed half a million streams on Spotify alone thanks to tracks such as “sinclair” and “girlboss”, and they look set to add further to this tally with new release “sting”. Infused with an infectious upbeat energy, the self-produced track is another impressive entry into their growing discography. The single is taken from their newly released EP, world champ.

Speaking further on the new release, girl_irl says, “‘sting’ is the follow-up track to ‘float’, part of a small project based around the idea of body autonomy and self-worth. ‘sting’ came together in the span of 48 hours as a way to talk about bad people in creative power. Overall, ‘sting’, ‘match’ and ‘float’ were inspired by video games I used to play when I was younger, a love for the ‘underdog narrative’ and taking back control.

“I’ve always loved the idea of throwing curveballs in what I make and with this project it feels really great to have three separate tracks showing three separate sides of my skill set – ‘sting’ being the main focus. While girl_irl exists in a form of make-believe, the emotions from it sit in reality.” “sting” and the rest of world champ are available to buy/stream now on all platforms: https://dmy.ffm.to/worldchamp.
