The Los Angeles-based DJ and producer chose DJing when she realized that regular music wasn’t the right fit. After her sister’s death and spending time in the hospital due to her own health issues, she enrolled in a music school, where her parents wanted her to play piano. While she was good at it, she didn’t enjoy it. She did earn herself a scholarship to attend a University in Tyumen, where she ran into her love for being a DJ after she took a job at a radio station.
“One day while scrolling vkontakte (Russian version of FB), I saw an advertisement for DJ courses,” shares Eliza. “They offered a 1st lesson for free, I thought it was about radio DJing and decided to check it out. It was about club DJing. At that time, I knew nothing about it, couldn’t even tell the difference between trance and techno lol, but I had some free time, so I decided to stay and learn. I have always had the desire to learn new things and I liked it. One thing led to another and I was able to get my first club residency in Tyumen. My DJ skills were still pretty bad though and I wanted to get better, I wanted to learn more. I convinced my mom to let me go to Moscow to learn production and improve my DJ skills at Audio School by DJ Groove. My parents were shocked by my hobby choice and of course, back then, didn’t think that I’d want to make it a career. I’m very grateful for my parents’ support! Although they didn’t always approve my dreams – they still wanted me to follow them. They agreed to help me on my journey of studying something I was passionate about.”
Her sound and style is an explosive mix of R&B, Hip-Hop, EDM, and Pop music with elements of turntablism and scratching. It’s more than clear in her newest single, “Midnight Love.” This song is all about fighting for what you want for yourself. “I produced ‘Midnight Love’ in the beginning of the pandemic,” says Eliza. “I felt sad, lost and lonely, nothing felt right including my love life. Sometimes I felt numb both physically and mentally. All I really wanted was to feel loved but at that time I didn’t realize that love comes from within. Don’t ask for love – love yourself first and give love. You’ll see how everything changes. It took me 2 years to learn that and 2 years to release this song. I hope I was able to keep the emotions alive and make the track relatable.”
