Ukraine-born female vocalist Delena returns with her new single ‘S.O.S.’, the follow-up to her previous release ‘Animal’ which dealt with critiques of beauty standards and pageants.

Inspired by her own personal experience, ‘S.O.S.’ is a request for help during a difficult time for Delena, but the way she sings the track showcases a real vocal control and not someone living in fear. The slick pop-production is reminiscent of singles by her contemporaries including Zara Larsson and Becky Hill and has been clearly crafted with the streaming market in mind.

The rhythmic military drum beat mixed with the Chic and Nile Rodgers-esque funk electric guitar provides a solid groove that puts images of sun-soaked beaches and swimming pools during a hot summer. I wonder if she is a fan of Lady Gaga from the timbre of her voice…and the catchy three letter chorus gives the song great potential to become a popular sing-along anthem.

In conclusion, with the summer live music calendar being as bare as a shelf of toilet paper at the beginning of the Covid-19 lockdown, Delena’s brand of earworm pop is a welcome escape and with over 150,000 streams already secured  maybe ‘S.O.S.’ is just what we need right now.
