“Berlin,” the first single taken from my upcoming album, Searching For The Stranger (out May 29th), is about finding your strength.
While touring Germany, I realized how lucky I am to have the privilege to speak up, to tell my story, and to actually be heard when so many of the people of my past were denied that right. I don’t take that for granted.
This song is not only about being strong, but it’s about accepting the fear and darkness we feel and saying, “It’s okay, we’re alright.” That is our strength.
Director Christopher Mills helped me give form to the video for “Berlin,” where we wanted to create a world that felt more like you were in an abstract graphic novel lost in time. These are my memories of Berlin; the spots I played, where I walked to get a coffee, met locals, cried in the streets, visited museums.
This song started a new evolution in my songwriting and inspired the direction of my forthcoming album, which I can’t wait to share more of with you.
